OTT platform Ullu enters Web3 space with UlluCoin

OTT platform Ullu has launched its own utility token called UlluCoin to boost user engagement using blockchain technology.

With this launch, Ullu marks its entry into the Web 3.0 space, combining digital entertainment with decentralized tech. Unlike traditional Web 2.0 platforms, its Web 3.0 focuses on decentralization and user control, make digital interactions more secure and community-driven.

UlluCoin is issued by a newly created entity and has a maximum supply of 100 billion tokens, setting the stage for a new phase in Ullu’s digital journey. The company also claims to be one of the first OTT platforms to make the shift from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0.

Dubai-based VC firm Cypher Capital Markets is a key early-stage investor in this new venture, Ullu said.

Founded in 2019 by Vibhu Agarwal, Ullu is a well-known OTT platform offering a mix of web series, short films, and shows, mainly in Hindi, along with some content in Tamil, Telugu, and Bhojpuri. It features various genres like romance, drama, thriller and comedy. Its audience is in india and also has a small presence in Australia.

With the launch of UlluCoin, users will be able to unlock premium content, redeem in-app rewards and enjoy exclusive fan benefits on the platform. To ensure user safety and prevent scams, UlluCoin will only be available through the official Ullu app and website.

Recently, Ullu faced legal trouble over its controversial reality show House Arrest which was removed due to its explicit content. The issue gained attention when the National Commission for Women (NCW) issued notices and summoned founder Agarwal and the show’s host to appear on May 9.
