NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the global arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has partnered with UAE-based payment provider Magnati to expand QR-based UPI payments in the UAE.
The partnership aims to grow the QR-based merchant payment network in the UAE, allowing more merchants to accept UPI payments from Indian travelers. This will enable NIPL to offer easy payment options to over 12 million Indians visiting Dubai and the UAE each year.

“The partnership with Magnati is a strategic step towards expanding UPI acceptance in the UAE. It offers Indian travellers a seamless and familiar payment experience at premier destinations like Dubai Duty-Free,” said Ritesh Shukla, chief executive officer at NPCI International.
Salim Awan, Managing Director at Magnati, said the partnership expands payment options in the UAE, making cross-border payments easier for Indian visitors and NRIs.
Ramesh Cidambi, CEO of Dubai Duty Free, highlighted that adding UPI to the payment system offers a fast and secure option for both merchants and customers.
As UPI grows globally, this partnership is a step toward improving cross-border payment systems and encouraging digital payments worldwide.
In September last year, NPCI India was reportedly in talks with countries in Africa and South America to help them develop digital payment systems similar to UPI.
