Bengaluru-based startup Minus Zero has launched an autopilot system made for India’s traffic.
The company says it can handle busy city roads like those in Bengaluru using AI that doesn’t depend on fixed rules or detailed maps.
The system uses only cameras to understand its surroundings and has been tested on real roads with messy traffic, animals, two-wheelers, push carts, and unclear lane markings. Minus Zero says the system is “Hands Off & Eyes On,” meaning a safety driver must always stay alert.

Unlike other systems that depend on labeled data or costly sensors like LiDAR, Minus Zero uses self-learning AI trained on large amounts of raw data. This helps the system handle new roads and unexpected obstacles, making it easier to scale across different places and vehicle types.
“We are already working with a couple of large OEMs in their journey to upgrade to these solutions,” said Gagandeep Reehal, Co-founder and CEO of Minus Zero. “While we are still developing and validating the system, we aim to be ready for production in the next two years.”
Reehal said this technology is part of a new generation of AI being used in real-world areas like self-driving cars and robots. He also said India has a chance to become a leader in this growing field.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are becoming more popular in India’s car market.
In 2021, Mahindra and Mahindra launched the XUV700—the first SUV in India to offer ADAS features for customers. Since then, other big carmakers like Hyundai and Tata Motors have added ADAS to their vehicles too. These systems use sensors and cameras to help drivers with tasks like braking, lane changes, and giving safety alerts.
Minus Zero talked about its complete AI platform, which has tools like generative models, vision-language models to understand data, and simulation tools for testing. The company sees itself as part of a new wave of AI innovation, working to create core AI models for real-world uses like self-driving cars and robots.
Foounded in Bengaluru, Minus Zero focuses on AI-based mobility solutions designed for India and similar places. They focus on keeping hardware costs low, using navigation without maps, and making systems that can adapt easily.
