Maharashtra Secures First Spot in BHASKAR Startup Registrations

Maharashtra has emerged as the leading state in startup registrations under the BHASKAR portal, according to data presented in the Rajya Sabha during the monsoon session of Parliament. With 33,845 registrations, Maharashtra tops the list, followed by Karnataka in second place.

Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada shared the figures in a written reply to a question raised by Karnataka MP Iranna Kadadi.

Launched under the Startup India initiative, BHASKAR is designed to centralize and streamline collaboration among startups, investors, mentors, service providers, and government bodies, reinforcing India’s innovation ecosystem. Each registered entity receives a unique ID, which helps implement various government schemes.

According to the data, Uttar Pradesh ranks third with 19,382 registrations, followed by Delhi (18,972) and Gujarat (17,370). At the other end of the spectrum, union territories such as Lakshadweep (5), Ladakh (25), and Sikkim (22) reported the lowest numbers.

Currently in its pilot phase, the BHASKAR portal is testing core features like personalized interfaces for different stakeholders and mechanisms to enable domestic and international collaborations.

The minister also highlighted the government’s ongoing promotional measures, including awareness campaigns, workshops, and informational sessions across states and union territories. Conducted in partnership with startup nodal agencies, incubators, accelerators, and educational institutions, these initiatives aim to strengthen the participation of micro and small enterprises in the national startup network.

By integrating the needs of diverse stakeholders, the BHASKAR platform is set to play a key role in expanding India’s startup ecosystem and promoting rural entrepreneurship alongside urban innovation.
