Home interior unicorn Livspace has laid off 1,000 employees, about 12% of its workforce, as it increases its focus on AI.

A company spokesperson said the job cuts were due to the use of advanced AI and automation in key areas such as sales, operations, design, and marketing.

The company said the move was not a cost-cutting step but a longterm strategy to better use its resources. “We are investing heavily in AI and technology that allows us to deliver better customer outcomes with more precision. We are choosing to lean into the future of work rather than clinging to legacy operational models,” the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson said the layoffs happened over the past six months as the company tested and rolled out AI tools across different functions. This gradual approach helped ensure that as manual roles were reduced, automated systems could maintain service quality.

Amid the job cuts, Livspace’s cofounder and India CEO Saurabh Jain also stepped down to pursue personal interests. The company said Jain played a key role in building Livspace’s AI avatar, which enabled the reduction in roles.

“Sometimes you have to close a meaningful chapter — not because the story ends, but because a bigger one is ready to begin,” cofounder Jain said in a post on LinkedIn.
