JioHotstar appoints David Zakkam SVP & Head of Analytics and Data Strategy

JioHotstar has appointed former Uber executive David Zakkama as its new Senior Vice President and Head of Analytics & Data Strategy.

With this appointment, all functions within JioHotstar’s digital analytics organization, including Veeran, will now report to David Zakkama. In his new role, he will work with business, content, marketing, ads, engineering, and product teams to drive data-driven decisions that enhance both consumer and business value.

Bringing over 21 years of experience in data science and analytics, David Zakkama has held senior roles at global companies like Uber, Meta, Swiggy, and Mu Sigma. At Uber, he led the Data & Applied Science team in India, driving growth across rides, delivery, and mobility, while pioneering Generative AI applications. At Meta, he strengthened user integrity systems, and as VP of Analytics at Swiggy, he helped transform the company’s data culture to improve speed and scale of decision-making.

“In this role, David will partner with the business, content, marketing, ads, engineering, and product teams to find ways to unlock consumer and business value through data-driven decision-making,” said Bharath Ram, Chief Product Officer at JioStar.

An alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Calcutta, David is known for blending technical expertise with strategic business insight, making complex ideas actionable and engaging.

Outside work, he is passionate about music and fiction writing, describing himself as someone who aspires to be both “a rock star and a data scientist” rather than just a rockstar data scientist.
