Indian Railways is set to sign an agreement with MapmyIndia for its homegrown navigation app, Mappls, said Railways and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The app will be used in several railway operations.
On Saturday, Minister Vaishnaw personally tested Mappls’ features. He highlighted its 3D junction views of flyovers, underpasses, and roundabouts, along with real-time driving alerts for speed limits, accident-prone zones, sharp turns, speed breakers, traffic signals, and camera locations.

The app lets users estimate trip costs based on their vehicle and fuel type, including toll charges for specific routes, and is linked with the Fastag Annual Pass. It also helps drivers maintain speed limits and avoid risky areas.
Officials said the doorstep navigation feature helps users find exact addresses easily.
Last week, MapmyIndia said that it had requested the government to make pre-installation of the Mappls app mandatory on smartphones made under the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
The company works with around 10 government departments, including DIGIPIN, police forces across the country, and tax agencies like the GST Network (GSTN) and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), providing data for geospatial analysis.
However, government projects contribute less than 20% of MapmyIndia’s total annual revenue of ₹463 crore.
