HDFC Bank Invests in BharatGPT Creator CoRover

HDFC Bank, one of India’s top private banks, has invested in CoRover, a conversational AI startup. CoRover has developed BharatGPT, India’s first sovereign, enterprise-grade large language model.

CoRover, with a reported user base of 1 billion and over 25,000 enterprises and developers onboarded, builds conversational AI agents, AI assistants (VideoBot, VoiceBot, ChatBot), and Telephony AI solutions. These are powered by BharatGPT, a multilingual, multimodal, and domain-adaptable large language model made entirely in India, for India.

Arup Rakshit, Group Head Treasury at HDFC Bank, said the bank was drawn to CoRover’s focus on India’s linguistic diversity. “Development of BharatGPT, which enables exchange of information in multiple Indian languages for a diverse country like India, set apart CoRover for us,” he said.

Ankush Sabharwal, Founder and CEO of CoRover, said the partnership with HDFC Bank would help scale BharatGPT’s reach. “This partnership signals a shared commitment to building AI that is sovereign, secure, inclusive, and capable of scaling across India’s most critical sectors,” he said.

CoRover recognizes the important role of government policies and programs like the IndiaAI Mission, which create opportunities such as the IndiaAI Startups Global—an international accelerator with Station F, Paris, and HEC Paris.

CoRover’s platform lets businesses quickly set up smart AI agents for voice, video and chat, using BharatGPT’s strong language understanding and support for multiple dialects. Their new BharatGPT Mini can run on low-end devices and even without internet, making AI more accessible in areas with limited infrastructure.
