Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, launched the Bharat Cleantech Manufacturing Platform at the Bharat Climate Forum 2025 in New Delhi.

The platform aims to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, financiers, and researchers to boost cleantech manufacturing in areas like solar, wind, hydrogen, and battery storage. According to an official statement, the initiative is designed to strengthen India’s cleantech value chain.

Speaking at the event, the Union minister urged attendees to "think creatively and scale up manufacturing" in India.

He added that the launch of platform offers indian companies a chance to work together and innovate.

He said the new initiative would create opportunities for financing and sharing ideas, technologies, and resources, helping India emerge as a global leader in sustainability and cleantech.

At the launch, Goyal emphasized that while production-linked incentives (PLIs) and subsidies were useful to kickstart the sector, they are not ideal for long-term growth. He urged the cleantech sector to aim for self-sufficiency and operate independently of government support.

Minister Goyal expressed hope that the Forum's participants would work towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of establishing 500 GW of clean energy sources in India by 2030.

He mentioned that India has long recognized the challenges of climate change, noting that Gujarat was one of the first states to adopt solar power.

The minister praised PM Modi for making solar power more affordable in India through transparent practices, fair auctions, equal competition, and greatly expanding the scale of implementation.
