Govt Blocks 25 OTT Platforms Including Ullu, ALTT for Vulgar and Obscene Content

In a major action against digital obscenity, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has ordered the blocking of 25 OTT platforms, including popular ones like Ullu, ALTT, Mojflix, and Desiflix, for showing obscene and vulgar content, some of which was pornographic.

Along with this, 26 websites and 14 mobile apps were also blocked — nine on the google Play Store and five on the Apple App Store.

The banned platforms include Big Shots App, Gulab App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, ShowX, Hulchul App, Desiflix, Boomex, NeonX VIP, Navarasa Lite, Kangan App, Bull App, ShowHit, Jalva App, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, MoodX, Triflicks, Fugi, ALTT, Feneo, HotX VIP, Ullu, and Mojflix.

These platforms can no longer be accessed in India through websites or apps, as the government has asked service providers to block them.

The ministry said it had to act because these platforms mostly showed sexual content without any meaningful story or social message. Some shows even included disturbing and inappropriate portrayals of family relationships.

The ban was made under the IT Act, 2000, and IT Rules, 2021, in consultation with other government departments, legal experts, and child and women’s rights groups.

Many of the platforms were repeat offenders—five had been blocked earlier in March 2024 but returned with new websites. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights had also raised concerns about content on Ullu and ALTT, prompting warnings before the final crackdown.

In February 2025, the ministry warned OTT platforms to follow the code of ethics under the IT Rules. However, they did not make the necessary changes.
