Just days after Bharti Airtel and Blinkit announced a new service to deliver SIM cards at home within 10 minutes, the offering has been put on hold, according to sources.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) raised questions about the process Airtel was following and reminded all telecom companies to strictly follow existing self-KYC rules.
A source clarified that the service is currently on pause, not permanently cancelled. A search for Airtel SIMs on Blinkit now shows no results.

One user on X said: “Tried ordering an Airtel SIM via Blinkit. By the time I blinked... the service was discontinued...”
Neither Airtel nor Blinkit officially responded for these quairies.
The partnership was officially launched on April 15 and initially covered 16 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.
Customers could order a prepaid or postpaid SIM, or port their number to Airtel, for a convenience fee of ₹49. The SIM would be activated using Aadhaar-based KYC after delivery.
The companies had planned to expand the service to more cities over time. Customers had access to a video guide for activation and could seek help via the Airtel Thanks app. They were also required to activate the SIM within 15 days of delivery.
