Bajaj Auto Leads In Electric Two-Wheeler Sales In March

Bajaj Auto is now the top seller in the electric two-wheeler (E2W) market, selling 34,868 units in March. Bhavish Aggarwal led Ola Electric has dropped to third place behind TVS Motor due to regulatory issues over sales data and compliance.

Bajaj Auto, which makes the Chetak scooter, holds a 26.8% market share, while TVS Motor sold 30,454 units, capturing 23.4%. Ola Electric sold 23,430 units, bringing its market share down to 18% from February’s 25,000 units. However, the Vahan portal recorded only 8,390 units for Ola due to ongoing registration disputes.

Bajaj is expected to reach around 220,000 units in FY2025, setting a new annual sales record.

This isn’t the first time Bajaj Auto has led the market. In December, it overtook Ola Electric for the first time, selling 18,276 units and securing a 24.93% market share.

Meanwhile, Ather Energy, which is preparing for an IPO, is slowly gaining ground. It sold 15,446 units in March, holding 12% market share.

Ola Electric's fall from its top position in the market comes as the company faces challenges in becoming profitable and generating demand for its vehicles. The company recently confirmed receiving inquiries from India's Ministry of Heavy Industries and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

However, on March 21, it clarified that there are no ongoing legal or regulatory issues, explaining that the sales drop in February was caused by a "temporary registration backlog." In February, the company was also renegotiating with its vehicle registration partners, Rosmerta Digital Services and Shimnit India.
