Apple names Bangalore University graduate Amar Subramanya new VP of AI

Apple names Bangalore University graduate Amar Subramanya new VP of AI

Apple has chosen Amar Subramanya, a researcher who studied in Bengaluru, as its new Vice-President of AI. 

This move highlights Apple’s growing focus on artificial intelligence as it works on more advanced machine learning and large-scale AI projects. Subramanya will now play a key role in leading these efforts.

Subramanya graduated in 2001 from Bangalore University with a degree in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering. He started his career at IBM as a software engineer and later worked at Microsoft. In 2009, he joined google as a Staff Research Scientist and went on to lead AI projects at major tech companies, including another senior AI role at Microsoft.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, said, “AI has long been central to Apple’s strategy and we are pleased to welcome Amar to Craig’s leadership team and to bring his extraordinary expertise to Apple. These leadership moves will help us continue to push the boundaries of what is possible through AI.”

In his new role at Apple, Subramanya will lead key areas such as foundation models, machine learning research, and AI safety. These are now central to Apple’s long-term product and software plans. He will report to Craig Federighi, showing Apple’s goal to bring AI deeper into all its products.

This leadership change comes at a time when global competition in AI is growing rapidly with major tech companies investing heavily in generative AI, safety systems and large-scale model development. Apple has said that AI has always been an important part of its long-term vision, and that Subramanya’s strong technical background will help drive the next stage of AI innovation across its products.

The appointment also shows Apple’s commitment to strengthening its AI systems, expanding research and developing new AI powered features as customer expectations and industry progress continue to rise.
