Anthropic Appoints Irina Ghose as Managing Director to Lead India Operations

Anthropic has appointed Irina Ghose as its managing director for India, the maker of the Claude chatbot said on Friday, as it looks to expand its presence in the country.

India is Claude.ai’s second-largest market, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, as major AI companies push their products in the country. Anthropic’s latest Economic Index shows that Indian users have a strong focus on technical use cases, with nearly half of Claude.ai usage coming from computer and mathematics-related tasks.

Ghose, who was until recently the managing director of Microsoft India, has over three decades of experience in the technology sector. At Microsoft, she led the adoption of enterprise AI across industries including finance, manufacturing, healthcare, technology services and government.

“Irina’s expertise in scaling technology businesses and driving enterprise transformation makes her the ideal leader as we expand,” said Chris Ciauri, international managing director of Anthropic. “As we grow our teams and deepen engagement across India’s public and private sectors, Irina will ensure our approach is grounded in local insight and aligned with our mission.”

“Indian organisations are moving beyond experimentation toward applied AI, where trust, safety and long-term impact matter as much as innovation,” Ghose said in a statement.

Anthropic will open its India office in Bengaluru next month, its second in the Asia-Pacific region after Tokyo. The company plans to use AI for social impact in areas such as education, healthcare and agriculture, while also partnering with Indian enterprises, nonprofits and startups.

Backed by google and Amazon, Anthropic is planning to raise around $10 billion in a funding round led by Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC and Coatue Management, valuing the company at $350 billion.
