Adani Group’s Krishnapatnam Port Secures Government Extension for Petroleum Imports

The Indian government has granted an extension allowing Adani Groups Krishnapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh to continue importing petroleum by sea until March 1, 2026. 

This decision made in the public interest solidifies the ports strategic importance in the regions infrastructure. A notification from the Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways confirmed the extension which was prompted by the necessity of petroleum imports. This announcement positively affected Adani Ports stock which saw a 1 percent intraday increase.

In addition to the extension Krishnapatnam Port has made significant strides in enhancing its operational capacity. The port launched a new advanced cargo handling system in August, streamlining the management of containerized and bulk cargo.

The system includes features such as automated tracking, real-time data analysis and improved logistics coordination, resulting in enhanced speed, accuracy, safety and cost reductions.

Krishnapatnam Port, one of India’s largest private ports, currently handles 64 million tonnes of cargo annually. Adani Ports acquired a 75% stake in Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited in 2020 and fully acquired the port in 2021 by purchasing the remaining 25% from Vishwa Samudra Holdings for ₹2,800 crore. 

The port’s growth and strategic importance, reinforced by the latest government extension, highlight its critical role in the Indian logistics and petroleum import sectors.
