Snowflake Appoints Sridhar Ramaswamy as Chief Executive Officer

The Data Cloud firm Snowflake announced that Sridhar Ramaswamy has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors with immediate effect, following Frank Slootman's decision to depart from his position. Before this, Mr. Ramaswamy worked at Snowflake as the Senior Vice President of AI.

The Data Cloud firm Snowflake announced that Sridhar Ramaswamy has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors with immediate effect, following Frank Slootman’s decision to depart from his position. Before this, Mr. Ramaswamy worked at Snowflake as the Senior Vice President of AI.

Ramaswamy has been leading Snowflake’s AI strategy since joining the firm in May 2023 in conjunction with the acquisition of Neeva, the first search engine driven by private artificial intelligence. He oversaw the debut of Snowflake Cortex, the company’s brand-new completely managed solution that streamlines and secures AI for all users in order to generate revenue fast. In 2019, Ramaswamy co-founded Neeva before joining Snowflake.

“As the leading cloud data platform, Snowflake is at the epicenter of the AI revolution,” said Slootman. “There is no better person than Sridhar to lead Snowflake into this next phase of growth and deliver on the opportunity ahead in AI and machine learning. He is a visionary technologist with a proven track record of running and scaling successful businesses. I have the utmost confidence in Sridhar and look forward to working with him as he assumes this new role.”

Prior to this, Ramaswamy oversaw all of Google’s advertising products, which included analytics, commerce, payments, travel, display and video advertising, and search. Throughout his fifteen years at Google, he played a crucial role in the expansion of AdWords and the company’s advertising revenue from $1.5 billion to over $100 billion.

“In the last 12 years, Frank and the entire team have established Snowflake as the leading cloud data platform that is providing enterprises with the secure, scalable and cost effective data foundation and cutting-edge AI building blocks they need to build for the future,” said Ramaswamy. “I am honored to have been chosen to lead the company into this next chapter of growth. We have an enormous opportunity ahead to help all customers leverage AI to deliver massive business value. My focus will be on accelerating our ability to bring innovation to our customers and partners.”

Additionally, Ramaswamy worked as a research scientist at Bell Labs, Bell Communications Research (Bellcore), and Lucent Technologies. Ramaswamy is a member of the Brown University board of trustees and was a Venture Partner at Greylock Partners from October 2018 until recently.
