Smriti Mandhana, the vice-captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, has invested an undisclosed sum in Neem Ayu, a D2C ayurvedic startup brand. 

This is the first time an Indian woman cricketer has invested in a startup. Through this deal, Smriti Mandhana will also be the brand ambassador of this company.

The startup plans to use the funds to grow its pan India presence and expand product offerings.

“I travel and compete around the world amidst gruelling weather conditions in different time zones, hence when it comes to taking care of my hair, I often find a lack of credible solutions. What made me immediately trust in Neem Ayu’s brand proposition was that its foundation lies in time-tested efficacy of Indian ayurveda backed by intensive research. These products promise to show results effectively”, Smriti Mandhana said.

The Gurugram-based Neem Ayu was founded in 2021 by Aditi Hingu, Dr Neena Sharma and Vipul Gupta, it offers a number of Ayurvedic products like anti-dandruff and hairfall products.

The founding team of this company has many years of experience in working in the FMCG industry. Previously they worked with some of the companies including: Hindustan Unilever, Kellogg’s, Cadbury, Emami, Yebhi.com, GSK and Colgate Palmolive.

The brand sells its products through its online website and e-commerce marketplaces like Amazon, Flipkart and Purplle.

It aims to launch skincare products in three to four months and expand its presence in the domestic market.

For now, the startup is focusing on hair fall and dandruff products, the market for which is already worth over $1.5 billion annually and growing at a rate of 22%.
