Postman a SaaS platform, today announced its plans to open an application programming interface (API) Lab at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani) to promote API literacy amongst students and aspiring developers.

The company further explained that most in-demand engineering roles increasingly use and consume APIs as part of their day-to-day work, but most developers learn about APIs only when they start their careers.
As part of Postman’s Student Program initiative, which is designed to promote API literacy among students and teachers, the new API Lab at BITS Pilani will provide a place for students to explore this emerging technology. Through this, students can build new skills and abilities that give them a competitive boost before they graduate and seek full-time employment.

The API Lab, opening later this year, will provide a variety of resources to foster projects focused on building and consuming public APIs, including state-of-the-art computers, high-end servers, HPC clusters, GPUs, printers, workstations, and many more.
San Francisco-based Postman was founded in 2014 by BITS Pilani graduates Abhinav Asthana and Abhijit Kane along with NSIT Delhi’s Ankit Sobti, Postman is an API platform for building and using APIs.
In August 2021, Postman raised $225 million in a funding round from existing investor Insight Partners along with the participation of new backers such as Coatue, storied Silicon Valley investor Mary Meeker’s Bond Capital, and Battery Ventures.
The partnership between BITS Pilani and Postman also includes a classroom program designed to train and support teachers who incorporate APIs into their curriculum. Already in its second group, thousands of students have participated and received the Postman Student Specialist Badge as a reflection of their skills.
