The newest educational technology unicorn in India, PhysicsWallah (PW), has acquired Altis Vortex, a publisher of exam prep materials, and PrepOnline, an e-learning platform for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

The newest educational technology unicorn in India, PhysicsWallah (PW), has acquired Altis Vortex, a publisher of exam prep materials, and PrepOnline, an e-learning platform for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Since becoming a unicorn in June of this year, PhysicsWallah has acquired three companies; in August, it bought edtech startup FreeCo.

Vivek Gaur and Manish Kumar are the founding members of both PrepOnline and Altis Vortex. As part of the acquisition hires, Gaur will join PW as its chief growth officer, as per reported by Inc42.

Alakh Pandey, founder and CEO, PhysicsWallah, said, “We are delighted to bring PrepOnline and Altis Vortex to our PW family. PW wants to increase its visibility in pre-medical test preparation via PrepOnline. The edtech startup wants to strengthen its study materials and book distribution verticals with Altis Vortex.

Founded in 2020 by Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari, PhysicsWallah is a test prep edtech startup.

“We partnered with PrepOnline six months into our inception and both brands grew together. Fundamentally, we were looking at unique forms of content creation (for test preparation), especially in the NEET segment,” Maheshwari told ET. “So, to strengthen our content arm, we looked at these acquisitions. We aspire to become the most affordable online bookstore for the test preparation audience. We will also look to launch our public consumer store post Diwali.”

PrepOnline is an online platform for learning that assists students in getting ready for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), the National Eligibility cument Entrance Test (NEET), and the all-India pre-medical exam (CUET).

In India, Altis Vortex is a publisher of books for competitive exams. More than 150 publications about exams including the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), NEET, and CUET, among others, have been published by the company thus far.
