As part of its ninth cohort, Surge, Peak XV Partners' scale-up programme for early-stage startups, picked 13 startups with an eye on deep technology, artificial intelligence, technological advancement.

Seven of the startups in Surge 09 are from India, four are from Southeast Asia, and two are from Australia. This is the first Surge cohort since Peak XV Partners was formed following the division of Sequoia Capital.

The founders in this promising group of builders come from a variety of backgrounds; some began working on their startups while they were still in college, a few are veteran founders, and others have PhDs in academia. A number of seasoned veterans from Surge 09 quit their jobs to follow their entrepreneurial dreams.

“We’ve kept our cohorts small… We want to focus on the absolute best founders that we can partner with in markets that are super interesting,” Rajan Anandan, managing director of Peak XV Partners, as reported by ET.

These strategically chosen startups are a reflection of our ongoing dedication to assisting the boldest business leaders in the area. Surge 09 is an excellent instance of the phenomenal growth of DeepTech and AI innovations in our area, with 10 of the 13 startups focusing on or utilising these technologies to address issues in a variety of industries.

Two semiconductor startups that are working to strengthen and establish India's position as the world leader in the semiconductor industry are among the startups that make up Surge 09, as are a startup in the ClimateTech sector that has taken on the ambitious task of producing green hydrogen efficiently to revolutionise industries, a HealthTech firm specialising in early brain decline detection and mitigation, and a startup in quantum computing.

They are also eager to collaborate with the upcoming generation of AI firms that are creating domain models across a variety of industries, creating AI tools, and setting the bar for the AI workforce.

The ninth unit of Surge includes two Australian startups in addition to seven from India and four from South East Asia, including Ethereal Machines, Elivaas, Incore, Mindgrove, Newtrace, and ZeroK, all from India, while one startup is in stealth mode, Relevance AI, Pix.ai, Horizon Quantum Computing, Mercu, Neurowyzr, and Dozer.
