Ministry of Fisheries Launches Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge 2.0 to Empower India’s Blue Economy

In a major push to accelerate innovation in India’s fisheries sector, the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has launched the second edition of the Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge. The initiative aims to identify and support startups offering innovative solutions to strengthen the value chain of fisheries and aquaculture.

Focus Areas for Innovation - Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge 2.0

The challenge is seeking disruptive solutions across five critical themes- sustainable aquaculture practices, deep-sea fishing innovations, supply chain and traceability solutions, waste to wealth ideas and alternative seafood production technologies.

Startups with innovative ideas in these areas can contribute towards to double farmers’ incomes, reduce post-harvest losses and ensure food security.

Driving Sustainable Growth

The initiative supports India’s Blue Revolution by encouraging entrepreneurship, job creation and sustainable use of marine resources. It also aligns with the government’s broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, promoting self-reliance in fisheries and allied sectors.

What’s in it for Startups

Selected startups will receive handholding support, mentorship and potential funding opportunities. The challenge is open to early-stage as well as growth-stage startups and invites applications from across India through the Startup India portal.

Application Deadline

Interested participants can apply through the Startup India website - www.startupindia.gov.in. The application window remains open until April 30, 2025.
