There was a time when this dhaba was just a small hut-like setup, with basic chairs and a few people standing around. Now, it has transformed into a well-known restaurant visited by people from all over. Let’s take a look at its journey and find out what makes it so special.

Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba in Murthal: Started for Truck Drivers
In 1956, Sardar Prakash Singh opened a small dhaba on GT Road in Murthal, made of just a tent and wooden poles. It was mainly meant for truck drivers who stopped there to eat and rest. Charpoys (traditional beds) were set up so they could relax. Later, his sons Amrik Singh and Sukhdev Singh took over and named it “Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba.”

Simple Start with Dal-Roti
In the beginning, the dhaba served simple meals like dal, roti, sabzi, and rice—served on charpoys. Slowly, it became popular among truck drivers for its tasty food and relaxing setup. Over time, they added more dishes and improved their services. Buses going from Delhi to Punjab or Himachal also started stopping there. More travelers and food lovers from across North India began visiting. Eventually, they added stuffed parathas served with butter, which are now world-famous.
