Hotstep is an online platform for dancers, fitness enthusiasts and people who just want to have fun, with the objective of offering top class dance tutorials, live sessions and podcasts from various artists. It has both subscriptions based and free video tutorials.
Vinay Khandelwal was born in Indore and shifted to Delhi at the age of 15. He started dancing at the age of 8 to compete in dance competitions. He has done graduation in Mass communication from IP University.
Vinay was the member of Shiamak Davar’s Dance Company where he taught as an instructor for 7 years and performed in over a hundred shows across the globe. Vinay has been in the industry for 15 yrs. He was a part of dance reality shows So You Think You Can Dance and also acted and performed in the movie Street Dancer 3D along with Varun Dhavan, Shraddha Kapoor, Nora Fatehi and Prabhu Deva.
Later on he decided to leave from an instructor job and start his own venture where he organized dance boot camps and international level championships.
Dancer to Hotstep Startup
Wherever Vinay has travelled, people always came up to him and said that they wanted to learn dancing but couldn’t find a good studio or timing was also a big issue. That’s when he realized that this problem needed to be solved and came up with an online platform to learn dancing. Due to his experience in the industry, he was quickly able to bring big names from the dance community on-board. People are now enjoying learning dance from their favourite reality show stars and other popular faces in the industry that too at the convenience of their home.
Vinay was always inclined towards creating platforms for people to learn and showcase their talent. He has done offline work for a number of years now. And it was now a perfect time to take it to the next level. In Covid situation where people became familiar with how online classes work, it made sense to connect everyone and build a huge dance community.
As of now, Hotstep has targeted users who have a bit of experience in dancing. Like an intermediate level starting age ranging from 14 to 28. Platform is soon launching courses and tutorials for people wanting to start learning from scratch. Their target audience is also Tier2 and Tier3 cities where they have absolutely no dance learning facility.
Team
They are a set of people who are all dance enthusiasts and putting in the effort to connect India and make dance education and fitness approachable and affordable. Hotstep has touched 5 figure users in their initial days and hundreds of users are attending live classes. Hotstep has also successfully collaborated with the dance departments of colleges such as IIT (BHU), IIM Bangalore, SRCC Delhi.
