Amazon will close its Android app store on August 20. Developers have been told they can no longer submit new apps to the store.
The company also announced it will stop its Coins digital currency, which was used to buy games and apps.
The company confirmed that any leftover coins in a customer's account will be refunded after the shutdown. The Amazon Appstore will still be available on Amazon devices, like Fire TV and Fire Tablets.

Amazon explained that most of its Appstore activity comes from its own devices, so it makes sense to focus on them.
Amazon has tried to create an alternative app store since 2011, but it couldn't compete with Google Play or the Apple App Store. The store was once available on Amazon’s Fire devices and some Android and BlackBerry models, but it didn’t gain much traction outside of Amazon’s ecosystem.
Amazon also confirmed that its Appstore will no longer be supported on Windows 11 after March 5, 2025, because Microsoft is ending the Windows Subsystem for Android. With these changes, Amazon is focusing on the platforms where it gets the most use.
