Zerocircle raises Rs 5 Cr in pre-Series A round from 3one4 Capital, Rainmatter, others

Zerocircle, a materials science company, has raised Rs 5 crore in pre-Series A funding round co-led by 3one4 Capital and Rainmatter Capital along with participation from other investors.

The funds will be used to support deeptech research and scale up efforts to replace plastic in food and consumer packaging with natural polymers and compounds.

“Zerocircle is building at the intersection of deeptech and meaningful impact at scale, applying material innovation to a problem that is both global and urgent,” said Nruthya Madappa, partner at 3one4 Capital. She added that the startup is building a category-leading plastic alternatives platform and working closely with some of the world’s largest enterprises to drive adoption at scale.

Nithin Kamath, CEO and founder of zerodha, also praised the firm, saying that “Zerocircle makes coatings entirely from 100% natural compounds, eliminating the need for plastic use.”

“Sustainable packaging alternatives are no longer an option; they are a necessity, especially as they are now almost at the same price level as the most commonly used plastics,” he said.

Founded in 2020 by Neha Jain, Zerocircle makes seaweed-based packaging to replace harmful petrochemical plastics. Its products include hamburger boxes, fried food containers, bakery packaging, and food trays, designed to eliminate toxic plastics and reduce microplastic contamination in the body, soil, air and oceans.

The company focuses on high-volume packaging categories where traditional materials like polyethylene (PE) and PLA face limits in performance, recyclability, or regulations. These include foodservice and QSR packaging, coated paper and board, hot and cold cups, grease-resistant wraps and biopolymer pellets—segments with large global demand that are actively seeking scalable, plasticfree alternatives.
