Frontier Tech Capital to launch $150M private equity fund to back Southeast Asian startups

Frontier Tech Capital, a new private equity fund co-founded by Pawan Gandhi (founder of KaHa which was acquired by boat in 2022), and ex-Citi executive Brijesh Pande, is raising $150 million for its maiden fund.

Gandhi said the firm has already secured nearly half of its $150 million target and is now looking for startups to invest in. Initial cheques will start at $10 million, with plans to back 10–15 companies.

Frontier Tech plans to invest in growth-stage technology and tech-enabled companies with revenues above $50 million, though with certain conditions in place.

“We also look at the quality of revenue. We are very keen to understand if the company is now operationally kind of profitable? What are the growth prospects? Is the technology something that can be scaled to other parts of the world? So, these are some of the things that we kind of want to understand before we decide on investments, shortlist, and create that funnel,” Gandhi said.

Frontier’s first fund has an eight-year tenure to ensure patient capital. It is backed by family offices and institutions, including those from Japan, Singapore, and the UAE, with interest also coming from Indian family offices. By focusing on Southeast Asia, the firm aims to leverage each country’s tech strengths.
