Drone startup Airbound raises $8.6 Mn in seed round

The startup plans to use the capital to scale up drone manufacturing and enhance the reliability of its drone fleet.

Drone startup Airbound raises $8.6 Mn in seed round

Logistics drone manufacturer starrup Airbound has raised $8.6 Mn (around INR 76 Cr) in its seed funding round led by US-based Physical Intelligence’s founder Lachy Groom, with participation from Humba Ventures and existing backer Lightspeed.

The round also saw participation from senior leaders at Tesla, Anduril and ather energy. 

The startup plans to use the capital to scale up drone manufacturing and enhance the reliability of its drone fleet.

In a statement, Airbound also announced a three-month pilot partnership with multispecialty hospital chain Narayana Health to carry out 10 daily medical deliveries, including blood samples, test kits, and essential supplies.

Airbound also plans to use part of the capital to expand operations beyond medical deliveries, enhance its technology, and prepare for broader market deployment.

About Airbound 

Founded in 2023 by Naman Pushp, Airbound manufactures its proprietary blended wing body tailsitter drone, called TRT, which the startup claims can cover a range of 37 kilometers while reducing delivery costs.

Initially, TRT drones will transport blood samples and other medical essentials from rural health centers to urban testing facilities. Airbound aims to establish a strong presence in healthcare logistics before expanding into sectors like food and grocery delivery.

Currently, the aircraft weighs 1.5 kg and carries a 1 kg payload. The startup plans to develop a lighter 1.2 kg version capable of carrying 3 kg of payload.

To date, Airbound has raised over $10 million in total funding and operates with a team of 50 employees.
