Deeptech startup Sthyr Energy has raised $1 million in seed funding round from early-stage investor Speciale Invest with participation from Antares Ventures.
The funds will be used to advance research and development and to pilot and scale the product.

“We’re excited to partner with Speciale Invest and Antares Ventures to take our technology from lab to grid,” said Gunjan, Co-founder & CEO of Sthyr Energy. “Our batteries are designed to provide energy security in a net-zero world—storing solar energy in the summer for use in the winter and delivering reliable power backup for over 100 hours.”
“Sthyr’s products are fundamentally not reliant on rare earth metals, but domestically available metals. Sthyr could be India’s gift to the world for energy storage – a sector that is currently dependent on a single nation, with complex geopolitical priorities, for rare earth elements,” said Vishnu Rajeev, who is an Investment Principal and the deal lead for Sthyr at Speciale.
About Sthyr
Founded by Gunjan Kapadia, Akhil Kongara and Muhammed Hamdan, Sthyr is building mechanically rechargeable Zinc-Air battery systems for long-duration and seasonal energy storage.
The system uses non-flammable, water-based electrolytes for added safety and features a design that separates energy and power components, allowing for flexible, modular deployment across different scales.
The company claims its batteries can offer a competitive levelised cost of energy (LCOE) for long-duration storage, positioning them as a strong alternative to lithium-ion batteries. LCOE helps compare the cost-effectiveness of different power generation methods.
While India has few direct players in zinc-based batteries, globally, several technologies are being explored to address energy storage needs.
