Companion Labs Raises $2.5 Mn in Seed Round

Consumer AI startup Companion Labs has raised $2.5 million in a seed funding round led by Peak XV’s Surge.

The round also saw participation from All In Capital, UntitledVC, DeVC and a group of angel investors.

The new funding will help Companion Labs speed up product development, improve its AI technology, and fine-tune its offerings as it works to find the right market fit. In the long run, the company plans to build a new type of AI-powered entertainment for India’s local-language audience, tapping into the growing demand for vernacular consumer AI to drive the country’s next phase of digital growth.

The announcement comes after Companion Labs was featured at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, showcasing its potential at the flagship Impact AI PitchFest alongside other earlystage startups backed by Peak XV.

“India’s next wave of AI adoption will be driven by consumer experiences that feel native to our languages, cultures and aspirations,” said Akshay Jhanwar, cofounder of Companion Labs. “We are building AI as a new form of entertainment where people can explore alternate paths and identities in ways that feel deeply personal and rooted in their own context.”

Ajit Pol, Co-founder, Companion Labs, added, “Entertainment has always been the gateway to mass technology adoption in India. With AI, storytelling becomes interactive and personalised at scale. Our ambition is to build category-defining consumer AI experiences from India, for India.”

About Companion Labs

Founded by Jhanwar and Ajit Pol, Companion Labs creates AI products designed for everyday users, tailored to the Indian context. The founders, who have experience in consumer internet, gaming, and tech, noticed that most global AI character platforms are Western-focused and not very relevant for Indian audiences.
