Venture capital firm Capria Ventures has launched a new fund called Capria India Fund II, with $100 million (around Rs 830 crore) to invest.
According to a senior executive, the fund is set up as a master-feeder investment and will attract both Indian and global investors. It also includes a greenshoe option, allowing for an additional $125 million in investment.
The company will invest in 25-30 startups, focusing on seed and pre-Series A rounds, with investments ranging from $500,000 to $2 million. It will also support businesses that aim to grow the Indian middle class, especially in areas like HR tech, fintech, SaaS, and climate. The Venture also uses these funds in manufacturing, agritech, and B2B sectors.
Funding Utilisation
With the new fund, Capria Ventures plans to reserve 25% for follow-up investments in companies from its previous funds. This will help them take advantage of late-stage opportunities and provide earlier returns to their investors.
Surya Mantha, Managing Partner at Capria Ventures said, “Not only will we invest in new companies, we will also invest in late-stage companies from our predecessor funds to return capital at high IRRs (Internal Rate of Return). India has faced an issue of giving early exits, even though the TVPIs (Total Value to Paid-In capital) have been healthy. Our strong attempt will be to address that, now that we have a strong portfolio from previous funds, We are getting good interest from our existing investor base as well as new investors. It is also indicative of the strong interest in India and the opportunities here over the next decade, which is quite gratifying. The VC firm was looking at the first close of the new fund by March 2025. ,” he also said.
In October 2024, Capria Ventures raised $19 million (about Rs 153 crore) for the India Opportunity Fund to invest in successful companies from Fund I and II.
Capria Ventures currently manages Rs 670 crore across its three India funds, which have invested in more than 40 startups.
