Basil raises $2 million pre-Series A round led by Prime Venture Partners

Online kids essentials platform Basil has raised $2 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by Prime Venture Partners. Existing investors Appreciate Capital and IIMA Ventures also took part in the round.

This new funding comes after two years.

In February 2024, Basil had raised Rs 3.6 crore in a seed funding round co-led by IIMA Ventures and Appreciate Capital.

"The kids’ essentials market in India is massive, yet there is no brand today that parents truly identify with across multiple everyday needs. Basil is addressing this gap by building a design-first, cross-category platform. This fundraise enables us to accelerate this expansion. Our long-term mission is to build India’s largest online store for kids and teens,” Rajagopalan, CEO & Co-Founder, Basil, said.

"This is our first investment in a consumer brand, and what stood out to us was the team’s deep focus on quality, design, and getting the basics right,” Brij Bhushan, Managing Partner at Prime Venture Partners, said.

Basil was founded in 2024 by Harini Rajagopalan and Mahesh Muraleedharan. It is an online platform that sells a wide range of kids’ essentials.

The company started with bento lunch boxes and insulated food jars. Today, it serves more than 1.5 lakh families across over 20,000 pincodes in India.

Basil currently reports an annual recurring revenue (ARR) of Rs 36 crore, achieving 5x growth within two years of launch.

The company follows an asset-light model by working with manufacturing partners in India, China, and Southeast Asia. It also runs its own Consumer Lab to design products based on parent feedback and holds several industrial design patents.
