[Funding News] EvolutionaryScale Secures $142 Mn Funding to Advance Tech in Biology

EvolutionaryScale, a firm specializing in artificial intelligence applied to biology, announced on Tuesday that it successfully secured $142 million in early funding. The funding round was led by Nat Friedman, Daniel Gross, and Lux Capital.

EvolutionaryScale will allocate its investment towards the training of advanced AI models and the expansion of a team to collaborate with the biotech industry.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and NVIDIA's venture capital arm also contributed to the fundraising efforts.

EvolutionaryScale plans to use its AI for many purposes, including as speeding up the process of finding new drugs and designing microorganisms that can degrade plastic in the environment.

The utilization of artificial intelligence to design novel biological systems is presently a highly captivating field.

EvolutionaryScale is introducing a series of models called ESM3. The smaller ESM3 model is being released as open source for non-commercial research purposes, while AWS and NVIDIA will offer the models for commercial use, including the biggest ESM3 model.
