Edtech startup Skill-Lync acquires Crio

Skill-Lync, an education technology business with an emphasis on engineering, recently acquired Crio, an immersive learning platform for IT jobs, for a price that was not disclosed.

Skill-Lync, an education technology business with an emphasis on engineering, recently acquired Crio, an immersive learning platform for IT jobs, for a price that was not disclosed.

The acquisition is expected to have better its higher education offerings at a time when competition in the sector is increasing due to a decline in online learning. With this acquisition, according to Skill-Lync, Crio will function as a separate brand inside the Skill-Lync Group, as per reported by VCCircle.

“Both Crio and Skill-Lync, were started because we wanted to solve a fundamental issue in higher education, i.e. making the engineers industry relevant. Crio focussed on Computer Sciences and Skill-Lync focussed on Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Civil Engineering. Today, as both companies come together, we believe that we have a unique opportunity to build one of the best higher education platforms where we can provide value at scale,” said SuryaNarayanan PaneerSelvam, co-founder, Skill-Lync.

Skill-Lync was established in 2018 by Sarangarajan V Iyengar and SuryaNarayanan PaneerSelvam, its primary mission is to offer engineering students and graduates from all subfields of the field industry-relevant and job-leading educational opportunities.

The firm said that it currently provides industry-relevant and job-leading courses to over 30,000 students from all throughout India.

Ex-Google and Flipkart employees established Crio.Do, which provides professional and academic audiences with programmes for experiential learning. Binny Bansal and other former Flipkart employees are backing the startup.

Both Crio and Skill-Lync were started to solve a fundamental issue in higher education, i.e. making engineers industry-relevant. Crio focused on Computer Science while Skill-Lync focused on Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Civil Engineering. The underlying approach of project-based learning approach and #LearnByDoing is a common thread connecting them.
