Decathlon Plans to Invest in India on Prodn, Retail Expansion: CEO Barbara Coppola

Decathlon is the one stop shop for buying sports goods online in India. Decathlon intends to raise the percentage of locally sourced sports goods provided in India from the current 60% to 85% over the next two years.

At present, Decathlon exports 65 percent of its Indian production. That portion would enlarge and keep expanding," Coppola continued. She stated that there are various factors driving Decathlon's growth in India when questioned. The general public is now interested in sports.Prior to the adoption of various sports, only 5% of Indians participated in sports; however, this percentage is now rapidly increasing.

"The middle class has taken a particular interest in this," Coppola stated, noting that India offers more opportunities for sports.

Decathlon, a French sports retailer, is increasing its investments to boost production and expand its retail presence in India, one of its "most important" international markets, according to Barbara Martin Coppola, Global CEO. The Indian market is expected to sustain its "high growth rate" going forward, as it is becoming a significant hub for manufacturing for the sports retailer. She continued by saying that about 65% of its output is currently exported to international markets.
