[Funding alert] Chess Academy HobSpace raises $4.5 mn in pre-Series A funding

HobSpace, a chess academy has raised $4.5 million in its pre-Series A funding round from Mankekar Family Office, Artha Venture Fund, Siddharth Shah and API Holdings’ Dharmil Sheth, among others.

The company plans to expand globally and use the funds to invest in technology to accelerate product development and enhance the overall experience for students.

Mumbai-based HobSpace was founded in 2019 by Priya Goel Sheth, Bhaskar Raju Konduru, Dharmil Sheth, Harsh Jain, and Nirupam Sheth, It is a global chess learning platform that provides courses for children aged 3-14 to learn chess and prepare for international tournaments.

“We are building a world-class online-first, global chess academy. The fresh round of funding will allow us to use technology to expand the global chess community and make chess coaching accessible to children all over the world”, said, Bhaskar Raju Konduru, cofounder of HobSpace.

It claims to teach chess to over 15,000 children across the world with users in countries like India, UK, US, and others.

The startup competes with Crejo, Kaabil Kids, Victorious Chess Academy, CodingHero and among others. In January 2021, HobSpace had raised Rs 1 crore in a funding round from Inflection Point Ventures.
