AstraZeneca India Private Limited disclosed a $30 million (Rs 250 crore) investment to enhance its Global Innovation and Technology Centre (GITC) in Tamil Nadu.
AstraZeneca has inaugurated its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Chennai, which is anticipated to be the company’s largest facility worldwide. This expansion is designed to optimize operations by next year, with an emphasis on innovation, efficiency, and the creation of 1,300 positions that are consistent with these objectives.
The company is anticipated to utilize technologies such as enterprise platforms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and supply chain analytics to influence healthcare outcomes as a result of the expanded GCC.

Ramanujan IT City is the location of the GITC facility in Chennai, which presently occupies 334,000 square feet of office space. AstraZeneca intends to include approximately 180,000 square feet in the next six months as a result of its addition to the landscape.
The AZIPL is the Global Capability Centre of the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company that entered the Indian markets approximately 45 years ago. Covishield, the highly sought-after Covid-19 vaccine, was developed by the company. At present, it employs over 4,000 individuals throughout the nation.
Dr TRB Rajaa, Minister of Industries for Tamil Nadu, said: “investment will not only enhance our state’s capabilities in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors but also spur technological advancements and economic development.”
