Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, hailed the opportunity to hire Agniveers, or candidates hired under the Agnipath Scheme, on Monday.
Anand Mahindra has backed Agnipath, the contentious new soldier recruitment plan that has sparked protests in several Indian states.
In the wake of the ongoing violence against the government’s recently implemented recruitment strategy, Mahindra posted a Tweet to express his sadness.
“Saddened by the violence around the #Agneepath program. When the scheme was mooted last year I stated-& I repeat-the discipline & skills Agniveers gain will make them eminently employable. The Mahindra Group welcomes the opportunity to recruit such trained, capable young people” he tweeted.
When asked what post Agniveers will be granted by a Twitter user, he said, “Large potential for employment of Agniveers in the Corporate Sector. With leadership, teamwork & physical training, Agniveers provide market-ready professional solutions to industry, covering the full spectrum from operations to administration & supply chain management.”
The Agnipath recruitment initiative was introduced by Defence Minister Rajanath Singh, marking a historic move to approve an appealing recruitment strategy for Indian youth to serve in the Armed Forces.
In response to this critique, the government and supporters of the Agnipath campaign believe that the skills and discipline provided through the programme will improve the troops’ employability.
Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director of TVS Motor Company, stated on Friday that the ‘Agnipath’ plan will have a big good impact on society and will tremendously contribute to nation building.
